Jewelcraft is a time consuming and expensive craft. However, it can yield great rewards to a craftsman of skill. This mini-guide will help the craftsman understand how jewelcraft works.Your skill in jewelcraft determines what kind of materials you can work with, and how successful you will be when crafting something with those materials. Materials come in two types: metals and gems. Metals can be crafted alone or can have gems mounted on them. Gems alone can not be crafted. The type of metal determines the base skill needed to create something successfully. The type of gem increases the level of difficulty proportionately. For example, working Adamantium alone takes approximately the same skill level as mounting Lapis on Brass. Mounting and Opal on Copper might take much more skill than working on Copper alone, or working with a lesser gem on a more valuable metal.
As you gain skill, you will find that you need greater and greater challenges to improve your skill. So, making a simple lead band will no longer provide enough challenge once you reach a certain level.
Below is a table listing the metals and gems in order of increasing difficulty.
Metals Gems --------- ---------- Lead Coral Brass Lapis Copper Garnet Bronze Topaz Silver Amethyst Gold Opal Platinum Ruby Titanium Emerald Mithril Pearl Adamantium Sapphire Diamond
